Why buy an adjustable bed?

On a flat bed, the shape of the body along with the natural curvature of the spine causes pressure which, in healthy people results in a large amount of movement during sleep.  This movement transfers the area of pressure and prevents pressure sores.   In people with restricted movement, this natural transfer does not happen, and this is what causes painful and distressing pressure sores.

How Adjustments can Help

Raising the Feet

Raising the feet, causes the pelvis to rotate, which flattens out the curve of the spine in a natural way.   More of the body is in contact with the mattress, spreading the weight over a larger area and reducing pressure.   Reduced pressure means greater comfort, fewer body movements and a lower risk of developing pressure sores.  Raising the feet also transfers pressure from the bony heels to the fleshy calves, greatly reducing the pressure at the heels.  This position is recommended for the following conditions:

bulletPoor circulation
bulletMuscular Problems
bulletEasing rheumatic pain in hips, knees and ankles
bulletSciatica
bulletFluid retention
bulletVaricose veins

Raising the Head

Raising the head with the feet level reduces tension in the abdomen, reduces breathing difficulty, and takes pressure off the spine.  This position is recommended for the following conditions:

bulletBreathing problems
bulletAsthma
bulletEmphysema
bulletBronchitis
bulletSinusitis
bulletHiatus Hernia
bulletUpper and lower back problems.

Raising the Head, and Legs (Contour Position)

Raising the Head with the feet raised puts the heart at the same level as the feet.  Therefore the heart is not having to pump against gravity, and is put under less stress.  This position combines the benefits of both the other positions, and is also unbelievably comfortable. This position is recommended for the following conditions:

bulletBack problems
bulletMuscle aches and pains in all parts of the body
bulletShoulder tension
bulletRheumatic aches and pains
bulletPressure areas
bulletSpinal disorders
bulletHip problems
bulletStress and tension
